Sustainability

At Alulux we are committed to acting sustainably and responsibly, not only to protect the environment but also to create long-term company value.

Our focus is on handling our resources responsibly.

Based on a precise measurement of our CO₂ footprint in accordance with the GHG Protocol (Greenhouse Gas Protocol), we have developed targeted action plans to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions sustainably and significantly. These measures increase the energy efficiency of our processes and help to secure the sustainability of our organisation over the long term.

Buildings

Our contribution to sustainable buildings in Germany

Coating line in Alulux production

The building sector in Germany is responsible for around 40 % of national greenhouse gas emissions, mainly because of the high energy demand for heating, cooling, lighting and operating appliances. At Alulux we are proud to develop innovative products such as roller shutters, external venetian blinds and textile screens that contribute significantly to the sustainability of buildings. Our solutions help to regulate indoor temperatures effectively during the increasingly frequent heat periods and improve thermal insulation during cold periods. In addition, our automated sun-protection systems with smart-home control deliver significant savings on heating costs and reduce the need for energy-intensive cooling systems. These systems are energy efficient and have a service life of up to 20 years, which makes them an ideal choice for environmentally conscious builders and renovators.

ESG

ESG policy and sustainability commitment of the StellaGroup

Since 2020 the StellaGroup, of which Alulux is part, has been implementing a comprehensive ESG policy. ESG stands for Environment, Social and Governance. This policy addresses important topics such as climate change, resource consumption, employee rights and community engagement as well as ethical corporate governance.

The introduction of this ESG policy has not only improved our business operations but also creates lasting value for our employees, customers and suppliers. You can view the StellaGroup’s current sustainability report via this link: https://www.stella.group/en/sustainability/

With the group’s sun-protection products, the StellaGroup is committed to a better planet. More information about ES-SO can be found here: www.es-so.com

Our path to sustainable production at Alulux

Commitment to environmental friendliness and energy efficiency.

At our 33,000 m² production site in Verl, Germany, we develop, engineer and manufacture all of our products. Our teams carefully monitor every aspect of production. This includes energy consumption, the selection of materials and the optimisation of our production processes to ensure efficiency and sustainability. As part of our commitment to climate protection, our energy management system is certified to the international standard DIN EN ISO 50001:2018. This standard defines how companies can systematically record, analyse and improve their energy consumption in order to increase their energy efficiency and reduce energy costs. The goal is a continuous improvement process for increasing energy efficiency.

Investing in environmentally friendly technologies

In 2023 we invested significantly in improving the energy efficiency of our heating systems. These measures are part of our long-term strategy to minimise our CO2 emissions and reduce energy consumption.

Material

Sustainable material choice: recycled aluminium

Alulux production facility in Verl

At Alulux we rely almost exclusively on recycled aluminium in our products. Because aluminium is infinitely recyclable and permanently retains its essential material properties, it makes an important contribution to the circular economy. Compared with the production of primary aluminium, using recycled aluminium can reduce energy demand by up to 95 %. In this way we conserve valuable resources and considerably reduce our environmental impact.

Our purchasing team ensures that the aluminium used meets the highest sustainability standards and is sourced responsibly. Together with our partners along the supply chain, we promote sustainable value creation and long-term, responsible procurement practices.

Supply chain

Sourcing along the supply chain

Alulux commitment: sustainable partnerships and responsible sourcing

Through close cooperation with our suppliers and the consistent selection of sustainable materials, we create the basis for resource-efficient production and a future-proof value chain.

Long-term partnerships in Europe

Over the years Alulux has built stable, long-term partnerships with suppliers and customers. More than 90 % of our purchasing volume is handled with suppliers based in Europe. This not only strengthens the regional economy but also allows closer monitoring and coordination of our supply chains.

Responsible sourcing and compliance

The Alulux purchasing team regularly monitors the organisation of the supply chain to ensure that all parties comply with basic principles regarding human rights, working conditions, environmental protection and anti-corruption. This commitment reflects our aspiration to act sustainably and ethically.

Active industry involvement and EPD certification

As a member of the industry association Technische Textilien, Rollladen, Sonnenschutz e. V. (ITRS), Alulux is actively involved in the sector and strives to comply with shared goals and standards. In cooperation with the ITRS, we have had our products EPD-certified. The Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) provides transparent information about the environmental compatibility of our products, which helps our customers make informed decisions. The results of our product tests are presented in the corresponding certificates, which can be accessed via this link: https://qrco.de/beyWka
